Jordan Boyd, Pittsburg State University
Jordan Boyd, senior history major at Pittsburg State University, has put his love of history to work in the region by contributing his time and passion to the improvement of area museums. Jordan’s interest in serving the community has manifested itself in several ways. First he has contributed to the planning, operations and even fundraising for two museums in the region–the Dobson Museum in Miami, OK, and the Miners Hall Museum in Franklin, KS. His works includes assisting in setting up displays and researching various artifacts and materials. At the Miner’s Museum, he has worked with public relations and the museum’s layout. For the Dobson, he has spent time scanning negative and photographic collections, in addition to helping with committee work. At both facilities, he has become instrumental to moving those museums forward. A recent project of Jordan’s at the Miners Hall Museum raised money and awareness for a local crisis center. This particular project generated a human interest story in a local newspaper. Jordan’s commitment to his community and region has improved the quality of life and the appreciation for history by its citizens.
