Lily Kim, a Philosophy major at Colgate University, consistently works to make a significant positive impact through advocating for disadvantaged populations. Lily has taken leadership roles to actively support organizations that are making a difference. Lily is a team leader for a volunteer team affiliate of the Lakota Pine Ridge Children’s Enrichment Project. Lily is also the student leader for an alternative break trip to the Lakota nation in Pine Ridge, SD. She traveled to Haiti to volunteer with the Haiti Circle of Friends organization teaching writing and music to children orphaned as a result of natural disaster. During her time there, she worked to bring awareness to poverty issues. Lily initiated a fundraising campaign, leveraging the resources of another volunteer group of which is she a part to raise $1500 to benefit the organization. Lily is taking a grant writing course to benefit the organization by sharing the skills she will gain in developing a sustainable fundraising strategy. Lily has also been an advocate for those in her home country of South Korea. She worked as a student reporter for the Migrant Workers Television in Seoul creating subtitles for films in the Migrant Workers Film Festival to enable the films to reach a larger audience.
