Cristina Semi, Hamline University
Cristina Semi, a junior Legal Studies major with a triple-minor in Communications, Philosophy and Russian Studies at Hamline University in St. Paul, Minnesota, actively engages in civic work across the Hamline campus and beyond. Cristina is active in Hamline University’s Conference on Race and Ethnicity and chairs the Hamline University College Democrats. During the last election, Cristina volunteered for Minnesotans United for All Families and promoted awareness of the potential negative impact of the Marriage and Voter ID amendments on many Minnesotans by organizing a “Hamline United for All Families” event. Throughout the election season, she collaborated with a variety of diverse student groups to build a stronger campus community through on-campus dialogues and voter registration efforts. She also continued to promote engaged dialogue on campus by organizing a series of spring semester events highlighting the political accomplishments of a variety of marginalized groups. Cristina was selected as the student leader for the 2013 community-service Catalyst spring break trip to Washington D.C. which focuses on awareness of hunger and homelessness. Cristina has shown a propensity for civic-minded work during her college career so far, and shows great promise to “do all the good she can” in her career after Hamline.
