Brock Monroe, Rollins College
From a young age, Brock was very interested in politics, watching the State of the Union and counting down the electoral votes on Election Day. When he arrived at Rollins College, he set out to spread his passion and knowledge of politics with his fellow students, which he did initially by joining a political organization. For the past year though, he has been serving as the Rollins College Democracy Project Coordinator, an initiative with the focus of increasing the knowledge and skills students need to civically engaged, and JUMP Civic Engagement Chair, a student-driven service organization. Through these two positions Brock has been able to set up unique programming to engage the student population in civic action. He led an innovative voter registration drive that saw over 20% of the student body registered in 2012. He also organized events based on increasing political awareness in the student body while serving the community. In 2013, Brock has brought sitting Congressmen John Mica, U.S. representative of Rollins’ district, to campus. His continued mission is to help students discover their personal political identity as a part of a Rollins education, and to give each student the tools to be a force of positive change in their community.
