Courtney Weerts, Kansas State University

Courtney Weerts, a junior at Kansas State University, invests in the education of youth in and out of the classroom. As the coordinator for a community service federal work study program, Courtney leads over 30 academic mentors for K-12 youth. She conducted an assessment of an academic mentoring program, participated in public forums on education, and involved herself in the Kansas Mentors program to better serve the community. Her program improvements have expanded the capacity of seven area schools, two after-school programs and deveoped a new community-based tutoring program.
