Sydney Harris
Fayetteville State UniversitySydney Harris, president of the Student Government Association has demonstrated exemplary leadership skills. Even in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, she has led the social justice movement on campus. Numerous speakers have participated in her virtual forums, including Civil Rights Leader and Former Chancellor Willis McLeod, actor and FSU alumnus Affion Crockett, and local and regional politicians. She organized a voter campaign, brought well-known NBA players to campus and led student marches to the polls for early voting. Sydney held numerous webinars and other social media posts to explain the electoral process and increase voter turn-out by college students. She has enormous potential as a future leader in our society. I highly recommend Sydney for this honor and for her to represent Fayetteville State University in the national fellowship of student leaders.
Personal Statement
“A life is not important except for the impact it has on other lives.” - Jackie Robinson. I am Sydney Harris, currently a Junior at Fayetteville State University. A native of Fayetteville, North Carolina, I have always made it my priority to positively impact my community, which is why I have chosen to obtain a degree in Communications with an Africana Studies minor. While attending FSU, I have learned many valuable lessons, skills, and habits outside of the classroom that have given me opportunities that have enhanced how I make an impact. The outstanding mentors and advisors at my University have also helped further my leadership perspective; especially serving as the 2020-2021 Student Body President. Throughout my tenure, I have been able to observe and assist with political, financial, and community-based matters. I have learned the basic processes of running a large institution which has instilled in me a passion for higher learning and leading with a growth mindset. To this end, I desire to continue my educational journey by earning a master's degree in Educational Leadership.
