Tulane University

Sonali Chadha, a sophomore at Tulane University, is a student leader in social justice, inclusion, community engagement, and facilitating difficult dialogues with her peers. She has devoted most of her co-curricular activities to improving Tulane's campus climate for underrepresented students, and for improving how Tulane enters the New Orleans community when doing community service. Sonali challenges her peers to consider issues of power, privilege, and identity when serving the community. Sonali's organization, respect for others, and drive allows her to effectively lead alongside her peers.

Personal Statement

Growing up in the city of Chicago showed me so much about the world growing up, especially my experiences attending Chicago Public Schools for fourteen years. I was fortunate to have an amazing educational experience but realized that this was not omnipresent amongst every student. This drove my desire to come to Tulane to study social policy, in order to someday pursue public education policy. I find so much value in providing a holistic education for students, and especially increasing these opportunities amongst marginalized groups. This drove my desire to get involved with service on Tulane's campus and especially the social justice initiatives.
