Personal Statement
During my time at Loras College, I have been interested and involved in creating positive social change on the Loras campus and in the greater Dubuque community. I have done so in many ways, including creating a new and sustainable partnership with the Dubuque Packers - a Special Olympics (SO) team. This partnership was introduced to the campus in 2016 and has grown by the assistance of students and faculty and with the help of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). SAAC helps improve the student-athletic experience, address timely topics and brings forth interests. The SO partnership has allowed students on campus to become more involved in their community and bring about positive social change. In addition to initiating the SO partnership, I have been actively planning and implementing an American College of Sports Medicine program known as "Exercise is Medicine", which encourages students, faculty, and staff to be physically active, create wellness, and prevent chronic diseases. An active campus creates a healthy community, which was my intention in bringing this program to Loras. Along with continuing my studies in Biology Research, I enjoy contributing to the greater Dubuque area - creating a social environment that is positive, sustainable and healthy for all.
