Grace Meyer
The University of Wisconsin-Superior
Grace Meyer, a freshman majoring in Art Therapy at the University of Wisconsin-Superior, is an avid participant in many different forms of service in local and international communities. Prior to attending UW-Superior, Meyer served with the Rotary, Feed my Starving Children, Interact Club, and the Boys and Girls Club. As ambassador of the White Bear Rotary Club, she has spoken on the importance of volunteering at Rotary Club meetings throughout Minnesota and in Gunma, Japan. Her advocacy on volunteering inspires others to learn more about getting involved.
During her brief time at UW-Superior, Grace has already begun serving at a local animal shelter and was hired as a student assistant in the Center for Academic Service-Learning. As a student assistant, her passion and experiences serving the community will be an asset to the nearly 1,300 campus service-learners involved in the addressing real community needs each academic year.
Personal Statement
I grew up knowing that I wanted to help others, and to achieve that purpose I have always been an advocate for volunteerism and civic involvement. While living the Twin Cities and in Gunma, Japan, I participated, led, and co-led a number of volunteer projects. This service work included cleaning parks and riversides, serving at barbeques and picnics for the elderly, and helping in local elementary schools as an assistant teacher.
In planning and implementing these projects, I have used these experiences and acquired skills to inspire others to do the same. Over the last four years, I have traveled to a number of K-12 schools and Rotary Club meetings around Minnesota to talk about the importance of civic involvement. During these presentations, I shared personal stories and answered questions asked about my experiences. Now, as a freshman at UW-Superior I am excited to have begun taking my experiences and sharing them to inspire others to be involved in the regional Twin Ports area.
