MSU students to receive awards for dedication to community service

April 10, 2007

— The Michigan Campus Compact will recognize five Michigan State University students for their dedication and commitment to community service during the 11th annual Outstanding Student Service Awards program on Saturday, April 14.

The awards brunch and program will be held at the 11 a.m. Kellogg Hotel and Conference Center in East Lansing.

Each year the organization rewards students from its member colleges and universities across the state for their outstanding commitment to service learning and civic engagement.

Four types of awards are given: the Outstanding Community Impact Award, the Commitment to Service Award, the Heart and Soul Award and the Michigan Humanitarian Award. This year, 109 students from 25 member campuses will receive awards. Awardees were selected from a nomination pool of more than 400 students.

Anthony Howell, of East Lansing, will receive the Commitment to Service Award. This award is given to one student per campus in the state of Michigan for their breadth and/or depth of community service. Receiving the Heart and Soul awards are Bryan Thomas Aloisio, of Des Plaines, Ill.; Tiffany Friedrich, of Fowlerville; Cameron Kielhorn, of Brooklyn; and Dawn Kontry, of Clinton Township. This award is given to students to recognize their time, effort and personal commitment through service.
