Literacy and the English Language Learner

Course Description This course offers the student the opportunity to develop knowledge and instructional strategies for teaching reading to students of diverse cultural/linguistic backgrounds.  Special emphasis will be placed on developing oral language proficiency as a prerequisite skill to reading and on instructional strategies designed specifically to meet the needs of such learners.  Field experience is required.  Prerequisite: Admission into the Teacher Education Program.   Required Books Herrell, A.L.
