The Contemporary City

This course examines the topics contained in a traditional urban sociology course and applies them to the surrounding urban area of Washington, D.C. It is a service-learning course, which means that you will be providing a service to community residents through your applied research projects as part of your learning in the course. Project D.C.: Urban Research Internship

The Project D.C. course is designed as a participatory research seminar. The central feature of the course is that each student will work in an internship under the supervision of Professor Sam Marullo or Professor Mark Rom. These internships are designed to further the goals of the Georgetown Community Outreach Partnership Center (GCOPC), a collaborative project involving the North Capital and Mt. Pleasant/Columbia Heights communities as well as Georgetown University. Clinical Neuropsychology

Course Overview In this course, a study will be made of the behavioral, physiological, and psychological effects of brain damage in the human being, and the assets and limitations of the methods used to assess such damage. Explored will be cases in which the effects are permanent, as well as reversible or progressive. Topics will include the effects of stroke, tumors, biochemical changes, and other neurological disorders upon the senses, perception, learning, memory, attention, and personality. Science and Technology in Contemporary Society

Using computers and nuclear weapons as case studies, this course will introduce you to important dimensions of science and technology in our society, namely 1. impact of technological development on everyday life, 2. debates about the cultural significance of science and technology3. the ideological foundations and significance of scientific developments4. approaches to social policy in technological growth.
