Re-Imagining Engagement and Partnerships during Virtual CEL

Regardless of the need to pivot Community Engaged Learning (CEL) to remote and virtual platforms, we can still develop meaningful community partnerships and engaging experiences for our students. In fact, the pandemic has increased the urgency for human-centric experiences and ways to address the needs in our community. This presentation will first focus on best practices of reciprocity, and the challenges and unexpected gifts of achieving that virtually. Next will be a presentation (and small group discussions) of the 4 Ps of engagement, technology and organizational tools, and reflection assignments that can facilitate successful virtual CEL. Campus Compact Western Region Continuums of Service Conference

Compact21 is the Western and Midwestern Campus Compact's 2021 conference series, held virtually on March 17th and May 25th respectively. This series will comprise two 4-hour virtual conferences focused on Resilience and Responsibility for Racial and Environmental Justice, two components of the systemic injustice that result in the unkept promise of full and equitable participation in education, employment, health care and environmental quality. March 17, 2021: Continuums of Service , 12:00 PM-3:00 PM (Pacific) May 25, 2021: Midwest Conference, 12:00 PM-3:00 PM (Pacific) Conference participants, students, community partners, national service members, veterans, faculty, staff, and administrators will explore how to partner in renewing the promise of full participation in higher education, a flourishing democracy, and productive, meaningful and gainful careers. In keeping these promises we will support the development of student, community and campus resilience by achieving and defining a civic consensus on our collective boundary-spanning responsibilities for racial and environmental justice. Civic Action Planning Institute

This event is designed for campus teams to come together and work on creating and implementing strong Civic Action Plans. Teams can include individuals from across campus and beyond including faculty, staff, administrators, students and community partners. We also recommend engaging leaders from across campus including faculty, staff from a variety of areas (diversity, ministry, teaching and learning, research, etc), student leaders, and community partners. Teams will have the opportunity to consider new strategies for civic action including applying an equity lens and engaging key campus leaders and will have the opportunity to work together and receive expert consultation on their planning and/or implementation.
