Big MLK Day for Oregon Campus Compact

February 16, 2011

Oregon mobilized somewhere between 900 and 1,000 student volunteers on MLK Day this year. Among the participants were eight colleges and universities, 31 service projects were undertaken, 21 school buses ran, and the mayor even provided Oregon Campus Compact with a Proclamation! The mayor has attended two years running.

A few community impacts from OCC’s Project Summary Forms:

  • 100 signatures collected for Cascade AIDS project. This moves them closer to being added as a charitable check off on the Oregon tax forms!
  • 2,673 trees planted in the City of Tualatin, along the I206 bike path, and at Tryon Creek
  • 300 lockers cleaned at DeLaSalle High School (among many other cleaning projects!)
  • 158 Love Letters were made for sick children
  • 16 tons of fertilizer were added to the garden at Village Gardens.
  • And much more cleaning, painting, moving, and organizing across the community!

Emily Gilliland has uploaded 743 photos from their big day. Take a look!
