Ms. Diana Grosu, a Professional Fellow from Moldova, has joined Campus Compact’s national office in Boston, Massachusetts. Grosu is a participant in the American Councils’ Professional Fellows Program sponsored by the U.S. Department of State Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.

Professional Fellows are competitively selected public servants between 25 and 35 years of age from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Moldova, Russia, Turkey, Belarus and Ukraine who hold advanced degrees in economics, law, management and other related fields, and are fluent in English.

Fellows are placed in full-time internships with government offices, NGOs and research institutions across the United States based on the fellows’ professional interest and experience. The goal of the program is to give promising Eurasian leaders an opportunity to gain first-hand experience in various aspects of the U.S. political and legal system, and apply this practical knowledge to their work at home.

Grosu has focused her work on grassroots anti-corruption efforts. Prior to her fellowship, Grosu has been involved in “implementing a project financed by the US Embassy in Moldova forming local action groups to reduce unethical behavior and corruption in Balti. The program engages students at University Alecu Russo, Balti, and beyond, as well as vocational schools and colleges. In this project, young people are informed about how to address issues pertaining to Civil Rights and Obligations of states to uphold the democracy, improve civil rights, reduce corruption, level gender disparities and mitigate discrimination…I want to improve my knowledge, skills and abilities in supporting this effort to modernize Moldova and gain the American experience as there is a desire to expand this project to other regions in Northern Moldova.”

Grosu is completing a Ph. D. focused on the stewardship of public lands and will be working with Campus Compact through May 2016 to assist with the redesign of our Newman Civic Fellows Award, which we plan to expand starting in spring 2017 to create a more comprehensive fellowship for students.
