Campus Compact recognizes Madison, Wisconsin community college for implementing institution-wide efforts to address issues of public concern

Campus Compact is pleased to announce that Madison Area Technical College has been awarded Campus Compact’s Eduardo J. Padrón Award for Institutional Transformation. The award recognizes community colleges that have successfully implemented institution-wide efforts to address issues of public concern by aligning teaching, research, practice, and values in service of the common good. Recipients are institutions that have undertaken comprehensive efforts to advance the values articulated in Campus Compact’s 30th Anniversary Action Statement of Presidents and Chancellors

Madison Area Technical College, a public technical and community college based in Madison, Wisconsin, has committed the institution to creating transformational change within its diverse communities. The focus of Madison Area Technical College is to educate students that are committed to equity, excellence, respect, and social responsibility. This is evidenced by the institution’s recent, deep investments to provide access to historically underserved populations, strengthening community relationships and confronting racial inequities that have negatively impacted communities.

“We could not have done any of this work on our own,” said Madison Area Technical College President Jack E. Daniels, III in a letter supporting his institution’s nomination. “At the core of our work is co-creating mutually respectful partnerships in pursuit of an equitable future. Indeed, it is the most meaningful way to create the change we need for the advancement of our communities.”

Tarrant County College-Southeast Campus is the only other recipient of the Eduardo J. Padrón Award for Institutional Transformation this year.

The Eduardo J. Padrón Award for Institutional Transformation is presented as part of Campus Compact’s Impact Awards, which recognize the outstanding work of individuals and institutions in pursuit of the public purposes of higher education.
