At the end of 2021, we’re proud to look back on everything our network has achieved. None of this would have happened without the dedication of all of you—the faculty, staff, students, and senior leaders at our member institutions.

2021 in Review

Member presidents and chancellors nominated outstanding student leaders from across the country for the Newman Civic Fellowship. (We’re now accepting nominations for the 2022-2023 cohort!) Learn more >

Through the first national cohort, our Engaged Scholars Initiative continued to support leaders in advancing co-created knowledge, critically engaged pedagogies, institutional change, and collaborative action to address societal issues Learn more >

A group of scholar-practitioners from across the country participated in the pilot offering of the Equity and Inclusion Credential as part of the CEP Credentialing Program.

The fourth annual National Webinar Series continued to bring tools and resources to you with 12 sessions this year. Register now >

53 AmeriCorps members completed a year of service as part of the Campus Compact VISTA program, completing 77,000 hours of service to address the anti-poverty needs at member institution host sites and their community partners Learn more >

We launched Teaching for a Future of Shared Prosperity, supporting faculty in using dialogue in their courses as a means to engage students in envisioning a more equitable economy and sustainable future.

We convened Communities of Practice around the Community Engagement Professional Credentialing Program and Anti-Racist work. We’re grateful to the co-facilitators from our network who engaged over 300 participants in shared learning and exchange.

Campus Compact Affinity Networks launched with three new affinity groups that had been requested by our members—Minority Serving Institutions, Rural Serving Institutions, and Mid-Career Community Engagement Professionals. Learn more >

Faculty and staff involved in Community Colleges for Democracy and TRUCEN continued to collectively identify and work together on shared opportunities and challenges.

Our 2021 Newman Civic Fellows met for a virtual Convening to network, explore pathways to change-making, and dialogue with Congressman Andy Kim.

We partnered to host a virtual symposium on Anti-Racist Community-Engaged Learning that was joined by over 750 practitioners from across the country.

We kicked off the next iteration of the Campus Compact VISTA Program with our first nationwide call for host sites. (Interested in hosting an AmeriCorps member? Proposals are due 1/19). Learn more >

Advanced Civic Action Planning support sessions were convened throughout the year to move forward institutional change at member campuses. Learn more >

We announced the agenda and keynote speaker Dr. Bettina Love for our upcoming Compact22 conference, all exploring the theme “A Better Way Forward: Innovation with Equity at the Center.” Learn more >

The K2H Civic Futures program continued to engage AmeriCorps members in research-based interventions to support civic learning from kindergarten through college. Learn more >

We partnered with the Students Learn Students Vote coalition to support the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge.

We convened a Place-based Strategies Working Group of scholar-practitioners who helped develop competencies for our upcoming credential offering in Place-Based Engagement.
