Recruitment is now open for positions across the United States. AmeriCorps members serving with Campus Compact VISTA are leveraged to build capacity in one of five anti-poverty priority areas: Education, Economic Opportunity, Healthy Futures, Veterans and Military Families, and Environmental Stewardship. Benefits of Campus Compact AmeriCorps VISTA service include: choice of Segal Education Award or end-of-service stipend, bi-weekly living allowance (determined by county), relocation allowance (if moving more than 50 miles),  basic health coverage, two weeks paid sick leave, two weeks paid personal leave, student loan forbearance or deferment if eligible, Non-Competitive Eligibility (NCE) for 1 year after the successful completion of VISTA service, ongoing training, support, and professional development, and childcare assistance if eligible. Campus Compact VISTA Leader - Boston, MA OR Chicago, IL (1 Position Available)

The AmeriCorps VISTA Leader serving with Campus Compact will build program capacity alongside our staff team based in Boston, MA and Chicago, IL. Our leaders support our multi-state cohort of AmeriCorps members throughout the United States. Campus Compact is a coalition of colleges and universities dedicated to advancing the public purposes of higher education and an intermediary sponsor for an AmeriCorps VISTA program. A projected 65 AmeriCorps members will be leveraged by higher education institutions and their community partners to build capacity for education, economic success, healthy futures, and veterans & military families that directly impact economically disadvantaged individuals. As a corps, Campus Compact AmeriCorps members benefit from a variety of professional development opportunities and shared virtual and in-person training including virtual or overnight retreats throughout their service year. You will be part of a team of up to five VISTA leaders and three staff members supporting the personal and professional development of Campus Compact’s cohort of AmeriCorps members throughout their service year. Positions will be located in Massachusetts in Boston, MA and in Illinois in the metropolitan Chicago area. **Please note: You must have served a full term as either an AmeriCorps member or Peace Corps member to be eligible to serve as a VISTA Leader.**

Based on the cost of living in the county in which you will serve, the biweekly living allowance for these positions is $1,120 in Boston (Suffolk County) or $667.52 in Chicago (Cook County). In addition to the benefits listed, Campus Compact will provide partial rent support paid directly to the landlord as well as access to professional development opportunities for individuals serving in these roles. Member Duties: The Campus Compact AmeriCorps VISTA Leader will assist in the creation and provision of member training, technical assistance, resources, and support to the national Campus Compact cohort. The VISTA Leader will maintain regular communication with an assigned portfolio of members and host site program staff via phone, email, periodic in-person meetings, and site visits. Alongside the build out of annual training and member support program, VISTA Leaders conduct and develop data collection & evaluation processes, research, and resource materials for VISTA host sites and members, and build capacity for program communications and recruitment.

Gateway Community College - New Haven, CT (1 Position Available)

Gateway Community College (GCC) serves the largest number of Pell-Grant recipients in the Connecticut State College and University System. GGC is a campus community that represents a diverse student body, housed in the county with the highest rates of poverty in Connecticut. GCC seeks to increase access to food security for students and employees through the development and implementation of an on-campus food pantry. The member will play an integral role in assessing the current needs of the GCC community related to food insecurity and will help in the design and implementation of an on-campus pantry. The member will work to seek outside funding opportunities, develop partnerships with other food security-related organizations, and create effective systems to track food security efforts at GCC. The member will have the opportunity to be part of a brand-new initiative, serving a community in need.

Member Duties: The AmeriCorps member will be responsible for assessing the current food security needs of the students and employees at GCC. The member will analyze existing data, collect new information, and work with community organizations to evaluate the data related to food insecurity. The member will create awareness through educational programming, marketing materials, and presentations to ensure the GCC community understands the extent and effects of food insecurity, along with encouraging participation in the initiatives through volunteerism, service-learning, and donations. To support the development of the food pantry, the member will research and assist with applications for various sources of public and private funding and develop partnerships with businesses that may support the pantry. The member will be responsible for developing day-to-day operational plans for the pantry, including hours of operation, staffing and volunteer training, inventory, and tracking mechanisms for the pantry.

As part of Southern Connecticut State University’s Sustainability Office, the AmeriCorps member will assist in planning, piloting, and scaling an integrated team-based approach through four participation pathways to increase food security for SCSU’s campus community and local residents. This position serves as the backbone of two key community engagement initiatives at the University of Hawaii at Hilo. The first is the launch of the first cohort of Bonner student leaders in Hawaii. This position would develop the application and marketing process for the program, build relationships with community organizations and creates community partner agreements, map capacity of community organizations, track student engagement, monitor partnership progress with respect to community impact and student development, oversee affiliation and communicate with the Bonner Foundation, and prepare an annual community engagement report. The second community engagement initiative is the implementation of a centralized community partner activities database. Building out this database will include outreach to departments and community organizations to document who is doing what, with whom, and where on Hawaii Island. This position will be instrumental in determining the impact of the university on our rural, low-income communities. 

Member Duties: The AmeriCorps member at the University of Hawaii will:  1. Launch of the first cohort of Bonner student leaders in Hawaii, which is a cohort-based, four-year student leadership program based in community engagement that serves as its primary target low-income and students who are the first in their families to go to college. 2. Campus Compact (Giving DuPage) - Wheaton, IL (1 Position Available)

The AmeriCorps member serving at Campus Compact – Giving DuPage will build capacity for the DuPage Higher Education Service Council (DHESC), which is a student-led, countywide collaboration to address the needs of the DuPage community through service. The AmeriCorps member will lead DHESC as it works to build sustainability, create partnerships throughout the county, and address the needs of low-income DuPage residents. As the DHESC is currently being formed, the member will work to create leadership and transition plans, short-term and long-term goals, as well as assessment plans. The AmeriCorps member will work with Giving DuPage and Campus Compact to recruit students, staff, faculty, and community partners to serve and take on leadership roles. In addition to working with DHESC, the member will also be working with local nonprofits on a skills-based volunteering initiative to meet the volunteer needs of DuPage nonprofits.

Member Duties: The Campus Compact AmeriCorps member serving at Giving DuPage will build capacity for the DuPage Higher Education Service Council. The goal of the AmeriCorps project is to support the countywide council of higher education institutions, working together, to best meet community needs and support the local nonprofit organizations through service and civic engagement. The Council will be comprised of college students, faculty, and staff who will meet regularly, as a group, and with nonprofit organizations serving DuPage residents living in low-income households. Each institution has its own efforts focused on serving the community including volunteer activities, community-engaged learning, educational resources, and research. The Council will pool assets, or develop new ideas, to best serve community organizations fighting poverty. Ultimately, the purpose of the Council is to create a synergy amongst higher education institutions to address our most pressing community needs through service.

The AmeriCorps member serving at College of DuPage will work with the Food Security Initiative, a multi-disciplinary group of faculty, staff and students at College of DuPage who are committed to fighting food insecurity for our students. Over the last four years we have grown the Fuel Pantry and Fuel Garden into an amazing operation that supports our students who are facing food insecurity. Our AmeriCorps member will help advance this project by investigating ways that we can provide more educational opportunities to both campus and community members in nutrition and healthy eating; research ways to increase our funding; and continue the work of previous members in using research and assessment to strengthen our programs. The AmeriCorps member will accomplish this by actively being involved in research; building relationships with community partners, assisting in the creation of materials and making recommendations for the future success of the initiative.

Identify programs on campus that could provide an educational component to our services, such as partnering with the nutrition faculty to conduct workshops on healthy eating. 5. National Louis University (NLU) THRIVE - Chicago, IL (1 Position Available)

National Louis University has developed a comprehensive resource center to support low-income college students. The THRIVE Resource Center serves as a single point of contact for essential wrap-around services such as emergency assistance and social services referrals. The AmeriCorps member will assist in curating and expanding community resources and assist in building essential relationships, additionally, the THRIVE Resource Center will grow and expand opportunities to respond to the needs of the whole student.

Member Duties: The AmeriCorps member at NLU THRIVE will: 1. Curate, manage and leverage community resources in key domains such as food and housing insecurities, financial literacy, employment, and childcare/support for parenting students. 2. Coordinate topics, logistics, and establish programming for “Pizza and Perspectives.” Pizza and Perspectives is a community health engagement program where guest speakers inside and outside the community create a safe space for discussing relevant health and wellness issues of young adults. 3. Increase donation drives to meet the needs of our low-income students. 4. Expand an online clearinghouse of community resources, best practices and guidance for addressing and supporting student basic needs. 5. Monitor database for tracking donations, services utilized, and student engagement with services and resources for monthly report, sharing data with community partners, and use data to tell a story of the student population and their needs for grant applications and potential resource partners.

Undertaking asset mapping to better understand the manifestations and drivers of food insecurity in the Attleboro community. 2. The goal of this AmeriCorps project at UMASS Lowell is to sustainably support River Hawk Scholars Academy’s (RHSA) expansion of supports to include a living-learning community, expansion into students’ sophomore year, and “Pathways to Employment” services (including job interview training, access to professional attire, and networking opportunities with regional businesses) while maintaining a clear and intentional set of strategies for serving its primary population of students from low-income backgrounds. As RHSA evolves and expands, we require an approach that will allow us to continue to leverage our recent successes into ongoing, permanent solutions that level the academic playing field for the diverse students we serve and that mitigates the influence that a student’s socio-economic background has on their ability to excel in college and move successfully into the workforce, earning the lifelong financial stability that a college degree can bring.

Member Duties: The AmeriCorps member will support RHSA in the following ways: -The member will help build a framework to help students with the financial aid process, financial literacy, funding their education, and academic progress. This will be a major focus for the AmeriCorps project. -The member will work collaboratively on the design, implementation, and evaluation of the Living-Learning Community, a program that will house up to 50 first-year students. -The member will further procedures and tools to ensure the health and viability of program evaluation practices. -The member will work with campus partners on the launch of the sophomore expansion program. The Brown Teacher Education Program will support the schools in meeting the goals of student academic engagement and social and emotional learning with a focus on culturally responsive teaching, supporting English Language learning, and building strength in Science and Mathematics subjects.

Member Duties: The AmeriCorps member will be responsible for assisting the Brown Teacher Education to build sites for student learning by increasing capacity building and leveraging knowledge to create a more efficient, effective reach for the program. The member will use research, data collection, analysis, and distribution of results to design and recommend effective programming. Member Duties: The Campus Compact AmeriCorps member serving at UW-Madison will serve a key role in implementing the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s Civic Action Plan. The AmeriCorps member will build the capacity of UW-Madison for partnership with Wisconsin nonprofits focused on addressing poverty and especially promoting healthy futures for our communities. This position will be based at the University of Wisconsin-Madison Center for Community and Nonprofit Studies (the CommNS) in the School of Human Ecology. Additional supervision will be provided by UW South Madison Partnership (UWSMP). Some travel to meet with partnering nonprofit organizations around the state is anticipated.

The biweekly living allowance for this position is $575.40 in Dane County. In addition to the benefits listed, the host site will provide professional development and training. The AmeriCorps member serving at the University of Wisconsin – Madison will be part of a dynamic, motivated corps with Campus Compact AmeriCorps VISTA. Serving as a member of a corps provides the chance to connect with other members throughout multiple states, create a network of support, and share resources. University of Wisconsin Parkside - Kenosha, WI (1 Position Available)

The Food Security AmeriCorps member at UW Parkside and the Shalom Center Food Pantry will address food security among students at UW-Parkside and the surrounding community by evaluating current program effectiveness, building partnerships and volunteer support, generating resources, and devising inclusive outreach strategies for under-served community members.

Member Duties: The Campus Compact AmeriCorps member serving at UW Parkside will: 1. Conduct research and train staff to evaluate the equity and success of the Shalom Center food programs, as well as the satisfaction of food program clients by collecting and analyzing data and feedback from clients and partners. 2. Prepare a report and presentation of research and recommendations for stakeholders. 3. Design and implement a culturally appropriate and targeted plan to increase awareness of Shalom Center and other food resources in the Kenosha Community, including low-income Parkside students 4. Develop a strategy/plan (with stakeholders) to provide greater access to emergency food for UW-Parkside students and identify resources to support it. (possibly a campus food pantry) 4. Cultivate partnerships to access and promote food security resources (federal, state, and local resources) for UW-Parkside students and recruit student volunteers to sustain this effort.

The Civic Scholars Leadership program for second-year students is the signature program of the Center for Civic Engagement (CCE), founded in 2020. The Civic Scholars Leadership program melds cohort building and culturally relevant pedagogy with access to mentors and service opportunities in Brown County and helps students develop the knowledge, skills, and dispositions necessary for civic leadership and academic success. This placement is a good fit for individuals interested in working at the intersection of equity and community-based learning and developing their research and mentoring skills. The AmeriCorps member will also support the growth and sustainability of CCE programming that serves students and community outcomes.

Member Duties: 

The AmeriCorps member will expand a pilot program which uses Community Based Learning, mentorship and cohort building to retain second year students through the power of high impact practices. They will build relationships for sustainable partnerships with the Green Bay community, including assessment mechanisms for community input. They will publicize this program and build capacity for the Center for Civic Engagement (CCE), using web tools including social media, grant writing, and advocating for institutional change. They will also support other CCE programing that uses civic engagement to promote student success, including collaborations with the City of Green Bay, local researchers, and community partners.

The biweekly living allowance for this position is $575.40.
