Each year, The Washington Center’s New York Life Higher Education Awards recognize five colleges and universities “achieving breadth and depth of civic engagement through sustained and mutually transformational partnerships that define and address issues of public concern at any level from the local to the global.”

Campus Compact is proud to congratulate the 2015 recipients of the Higher Education Civic Engagement Award, all of whom are Campus Compact members:

• Dominican University of California
• John Carroll University
• Rutgers University – Camden
• Tufts University
• Weber State University

“Dominican University of California is honored to be one of five colleges and universities from a nationwide pool to receive a 2015 New York Life Higher Education Civic Engagement Award,” said Dominican President Mary B. Marcy. “Dominican’s membership in Campus Compact has been vital to the development of our service-learning program and our approach to community engagement. Dominican has cultivated civically engaged learning opportunities fueled by best practices, extensive research, and the mentorship of generous practitioners across the country—all of which have been nurtured by Campus Compact. We are especially grateful to our state office in California for their ongoing encouragement and expertise.”

Campus Compact advances the public purposes of colleges and universities by deepening their ability to improve community life and to educate students for civic and social responsibility, and the five institutions honored by The Washington Center are models for how all of higher education can strive to make civic and community engagement an institutional priority.

“While these five Campus Compact members differ from each other in nearly every respect, they share a deep commitment to the public purposes of higher education,” said Campus Compact president Andrew Seligsohn. “I am personally thrilled for my former colleagues at Rutgers-Camden,” said Seligsohn, who previously served there as associate chancellor for civic engagement and strategic planning, “and I am pleased that these Campus Compact members have been identified by an independent panel as exemplars for our movement.”
