Dr. Anne P. DePrince of University of Denver Selected as Recipient of 2015 Thomas Ehrlich Civically Engaged Faculty Award
Campus Compact is pleased to announce that Anne P. DePrince, Ph.D., Professor and Chair of Psychology and Director of the Center for Community Engagement and Service Learning at the University of Denver, is the recipient of the 2015 Thomas Ehrlich Civically Engaged Faculty Award.
“Community engagement is deeply integrated into my teaching and research, helping to define who I am as a leader at the University of Denver. I strive to cultivate partnerships across research and teaching that are mutually beneficial, and I have been struck by how community-engaged work becomes a truly transformational enterprise,” said Dr. DePrince. “As a scholar embedded in community collaborations that value many voices, it’s clear that our work is important to our students, faculty members, and to the health of our surrounding neighbors.”
The Ehrlich Award is given annually to recognize one senior faculty member for exemplary leadership in advancing students’ civic learning, supporting community engagement, and contributing to the public good. This award is generously sponsored by the KPMG Foundation.
Dr. DePrince, along with award finalists Sandra Sgoutas-Emch of the University of San Diego, Anna Shusterman of Wesleyan University, and Mara Winick of the University of Redlands, will have the opportunity to present her work as part of a special panel during Campus Compact’s 30th Anniversary Conference in March.
“Professor DePrince’s exemplary work in engaged teaching and research, along with her contributions to the institutionalization of community engagement at the University of Denver, embodies in practice the core ideals of Campus Compact and the Ehrlich Award,” said Campus Compact president Andrew Seligsohn. “It is clear that Professor DePrince has had a substantial impact on her students, the University of Denver, and the broader public, including and especially victims of various forms of violence who are often left without effective support.”
The award is named in honor of Thomas Ehrlich, former chair of the Campus Compact board of directors and president emeritus of Indiana University. Ehrlich will be on hand to formally present the award during Campus Compact’s 30th Anniversary Conference in Boston.
Dr. DePrince is the Director of the University of Denver’s Center for Community Engagement and Service Learning (CCESL). CCESL’s mission is to educate, engage, and equip the campus community to accomplish tangible, public work that improves the lives of people in our communities.
As a co-editor of three volumes on trauma and violence, Dr. DePrince’s research has been recognized through federal funding as well as local and national awards. Dr. DePrince teaches courses in both the undergraduate and graduate curriculum, integrating community-engaged pedagogy to advance student learning while meeting community partner needs.
A licensed clinical psychologist in Colorado, Dr. DePrince completed her doctoral training at the University of Oregon and clinical internship at the University of Washington School of Medicine.
This award is made possible by the generous support of the KPMG Foundation.
