Laura Torres, Texas Lutheran University
Laura Torres is a junior communications major and political science minor at Texas Lutheran University. As a member of the Partnership Council, a group of Seguin community leaders and TLU faculty, staff, and students, Laura has actively strengthened both the TLU and Seguin communities through the power of partnership. She currently serves as the Civic Engagement Coordinator for the 2014 Seguin Respect Campaign, focused on recognizing the dignity and essential worth of all persons. Laura is at the center of coordinating efforts between more than 30 different organizations, 20 distinct events, and a wide variety of supporting activities. Laura is a dynamic student, also serving as the President of the Mexican-American Student Association and working as a mentor and support staff to TLU peer mentors, who reinforce persistence and success among the nearly 50% of first-generation TLU students. Through her desire to educate herself and everyone around her, as well as her sense of responsibility to utilize her education and talents for the betterment of society, she is an excellent example of the TLU tagline: Learn Boldly, Live to Inspire.
