10th Anniversary Meeting of Building Bridges Coalition
The Building Bridges Coalition (BBC) invites you to join us for the 10th Anniversary meeting on June 14th at the Brookings Institution in Washington DC. BBC is a “big umbrella” coalition for international volunteering that includes non-governmental organizations, government-sponsored programs, faith-based service organizations, multinational corporations, and university-based programs.
Of particular interest to globalsl readers, BBC has a Research and University Engagement Working Group, which aims to foster and disseminate research on the impact of international service in higher education. The

The keynote speaker for this event is General Stanley McChrystal, who heads the Service Year Alliance, a coalition of organizations promoting a year of service for all young Americans. Joining him will be United Nations Volunteers (UNV) Executive Coordinator Richard Dictus from Bonn Germany and Carrie Hessler-Radelet, Director of the U.S. Peace Corps.
The Research and University Engagement Working Group will also hold a panel discussion to discuss the intersection of international service and higher education. This is an opportunity to engage with cutting edge leaders in service to discuss how these resource partners can help your organization with:
- measuring the contribution of international service to students, volunteers,
- community organizations, and higher education institutions
- sharing of best practices across international service programs, and
- updates on international volunteering opportunities for organizations as well as
- public policy options for the next U.S. national administration.
