Harley Mitchell, Rhode Island College

Harley D. Mitchell has been able to combine her work as a resident assistant with her interests in health care and social activism. As a volunteer for Mothers Against Drunk Driving, she brings the message of that organization to our students here on campus. Harley’s work with epilepsy awareness and her interest in health care initiatives have helped make our campus a much healthier place. When she sees a need, she fills it in an inventive way. She co-sponsored a distracted driving event at our college with the local Department of Motor Vehicles that involved setting up an obstacle course to address the different forms of distracted driving. She organized an innovative program for The Autism Project here on campus and worked to gather volunteers for their two-week summer camp. Harley will bring a high level of caring and compassion to any work she chooses to do in the future.
