Chase Mizzell, University of South Carolina, Columbia

Chase Mizzell, a sophomore at the University of South Carolina, battles against hunger both on and off campus. Chase partnered with the University’s food service provider to create the Second Servings program. Unserved food from campus cafeterias is donated on a recurring basis to a variety of non-profit agencies in the city of Columbia. To date, the program has provided over 15,000 servings of food and has significantly reduced the amount of food wasted each year. Chase is currently working with several University offices to create a food bank for students in need.
