Personal Statement

My passion of civic engagement has drawn me towards a movement of interfaith service, where communities of religious and non-religious backgrounds come together to create social change. During freshman year, I attended an alternative spring break trip to New Orleans which focused on hurricane relief through an interfaith lens. The communities of faith that I served with exemplified to me a true realization of how human beings can be united across profound differences in order to fight for causes they care about. Inspired to continue serving, I co-led the trip to New Orleans the following year and stepped into other leadership roles as I continued my education. I am currently a co-leader of Hamline's Better Together Campaign which is a part of a wider national movement of the Interfaith Youth Core. As a co-leader, I have organized campus events centered on serving the local community and reflecting on common core values. Through other leadership roles, I have integrated my skills of interfaith work into programs such as the Hmong Student Association's youth conference for the Girl Scouts of MN and a workshop for the Interfaith Youth Connection. I will continue to put my skills of interfaith work into application.
