Personal Statement

I began my studies at Florida State College at Jacksonville in 2013 and took my first math class in 2014. Math was always a difficult subject for me until I discovered the Math Tutoring Lab. Attendance in the lab helped me improve my grades and I felt the need to "pay it forward" by encouraging my fellow students to attend the tutoring sessions. I soon found myself volunteering my free time in the lab, offering students encouragement and advice, providing the skills they needed to succeed. I truly feel that I am making a difference and it is a privilege to be able to serve as a mentor to my fellow students, offering positive alternatives and outreach to help them pass their courses. I enjoy the challenge of offering support and suggesting ways to find an answer or finish a project, encouraging my fellow students to achieve and succeed. Through this life-changing experience, I have been able to use the skills that I have learned throughout my college career to make a positive impact on the FSCJ student community through the Math Tutoring Lab.
