Personal Statement

I first became exposed to societal hardship while volunteering for an Austrian Red Cross food shelter as a US student ambassador when I was in high school. That experience had a significant impact on me and my desire to help people. I soon realized that poverty is just one of a number of areas in need of help. Serving as a Hospice aide was one of my first jobs as a volunteer upon entering college. Through my past experience and work in the student youth group of my church, my passion for working with people in an underserved part of society pushed me to want to help others to do the same. I became the President of Alternative Spartan Breaks, which is one of the largest volunteer service organizations at Michigan State University. In this role, I work to connect other students with this fantastic volunteer organization where students give up their college breaks to help others across the nation. Uniting students to make a significant impact in local and global communities has been rewarding as I witness the eagerness of people to serve each other. My time volunteering has truly demonstrated how great the world becomes when people give.
