Mickeely Dias

Mott Community College

Mickeely Dias is completing her final year at Mott Community College and throughout her time at MCC, she has served in leadership roles in which she could motivate others to see themselves as leaders in the community. Much of her influence came through her role as the President of Phi Theta Kappa, her status in the MCC Honors College and as a member of the President’s Student Advisory Council. Through these roles, she encouraged her fellow students to look for solutions amid problems, particularly those problems that stemmed from the pandemic. For example, she was particularly influential in navigating community engagement projects while ensuring safety of the volunteers and the participants. She looks at current social issues from multiple perspectives to find pathways for moving forward to make positive contributions.

Personal Statement

I have always enjoyed taking on leadership roles.  As a young girl, I enjoyed helping my teachers as they tried to help students.  As a high school student, I participated in cross-generational communication to exchange letters with elementary school kids and develop their self-confidence. As a volleyball coach, I steered young girls into a positive direction in life through a positive outlook. As a member of the National Honors Society, I encouraged the underserved through service work. I realized that through leadership, I could help others, especially girls, to reach their potential. My past experiences were a springboard into my leadership roles at Mott Community College.  As the President of Phi Theta Kappa, I coordinated a pen pal project for cross-generational communication with the elderly in an assisted living center. Our PTK members were able to see the value of building relationships that strengthen one another among all generations. As PTK President, I seek to empower our board members, many of whom are women, to see themselves as leaders because of the strength of their character and significance of their contributions. Both now and in the future, I want to continue to help others reach their full potential through leadership.
