Personal Statement

When I was a little girl, I was constantly upset by the perceive injustices of the world. It was not until high school that I realized I could do something about it. I started my social justice work by addressing media manipulation done by the Tobacco Industry to LGBTQ+, youth, people of color, and women to get these groups to become addicted to a deadly product. I worked on local policies to decrease tobacco use. Additionally, through high school and college, I worked with the Campaign for Tobacco Free Kids to come up with an international social media campaign "Not a Replacement [Smoker]". The campaign was featured in Seventeen Magazine and the Huffington Post. Since then, I have turned my attention to on-campus issues. I noticed that the lack of feminine hygiene products on my school's campus can be detrimental to students. As such, I decided to act. I am currently conducting a campaign to make feminine hygiene products as accessible as paper towels and hand soap in campus restrooms. After all, such hygiene products are absolutely necessary for one of life's most basic biological processes.
