Personal Statement

Since my first year at Stetson, I’ve worked with Hispanic Health Initiatives, where I advocate for, and educate, underserved or uninsured members of my community about health and wellness. We provide free screenings for those who cannot see a doctor regularly due to social or systemic barriers. Over the past two years, I have gained more of a leadership role within the grassroots organization, expanding my work as Community Outreach Coordinator to create more effective education tools and extend our partnerships in West Volusia. Working with Hispanic Health Initiatives has helped me see the need for culturally competent, affordable access to quality medical care, especially in rural communities like where I am from. When I graduate from Stetson University, I want to leave behind the legacy that social injustice is crucial in understanding what it means to be a quality health care provider. I intend to go to medical school, then become a primary care physician in a rural, medically underserved area.
