Liam Elkind

Yale University

Liam Elkind, a member of the class of 2021 at Yale University, has been an active leader and organizer since he arrived on campus. Liam is committed to civic engagement, particularly by devoting himself to increasing voter turnout. To that end, Liam has worked on a number of initiatives, both on campus and off, with increasing levels of responsibility. Liam has created projects that encourage out-of-state students to vote in their home states and worked alongside Yale staff to increase voting access across New Haven. Liam is an Ethics, Politics and Economics and Global Affairs major, who also holds leadership roles in campus organizations. Importantly, Liam shows a commitment to cultural competency and actively pursues opportunities to grow as a civic leader both on and off campus.

Personal Statement

My high school and college life has been devoted to bringing people closer together, forming bonds and communities, and seeking common ground on everyday issues. Whether in the political realm working for political candidates and elected officials, or even as a Big Sib, welcoming new students to an unfamiliar school, I have consistently refocused my efforts towards a philosophy of servant leadership, one which seeks to uplift and empower those I am lucky enough to work with. The Newman Civic Fellowship is centered around building tomorrow’s leaders, and I believe our strongest leaders have always been those for whom service is of the utmost importance.
