Kaitlyn initiated our student chapter of SURJ (Standing Up for Racial Justice) and is the current co-chair, serving as a liaison between the campus chapter and local community chapter. She is committed to environmental and social justice issues and works closely with our local chapter of SURJ as a community organizer on campus and in the local Huntingdon community. She was also the Juniata Next Gen Climate Fellow and worked tirelessly on voter registration efforts while also an engaged resident in our campus Eco House, a sustainability-focused living and learning environment.

Personal Statement

As the Media & Member Coordinator for the Central PA SURJ (Showing Up for Racial Justice) chapter, I am the leader of one of our student advocacy organizations, Juniata SURJ, and act as liaison between students and members of the surrounding Huntingdon community to facilitate monthly actions and raise awareness about local opportunities. We challenge injustices and affirm values of peace, truth, nonviolence, and love. I try to unify Huntingdon and Juniata College by creating a space for the two communities to interact. My work with CPASURJ has allowed me to engage with our community and open dialogue to discuss ways we can better support our diverse neighbors and affect positive change.
