Rose State College

Kade Turner, a second year student at Rose State College, is a student leader who has emerged as an active member of the Rose State College community through his engagement with athletics, service learning, and personal achievement. Earning the rank of Eagle Scout prior to college, he has learned and exhibited perseverance and service since he was a young child. He steps willingly into any situation and is kind, inclusive and genuine to everyone he meets. Kade often takes a leadership role while participating in service learning and volunteer activities by including other students, volunteering for more difficult, but necessary, tasks and setting the example for his peers when at partner agencies. He has maximized the potential of his involvement in service learning by using his skills and academics to volunteer in the business office of a local partner agency, The Sharing Tree. One will find a common theme behind his actions and involvement, Mr. Turner is a passionate advocate for others and a steadfast supporter of community.

Personal Statement

I have learned to make a difference in my community by being a servant leader. My path to becoming an Eagle Scout provided many service opportunities. I want to be a person who makes a positive impact in my community by leading through example. I am a member of the Presidential Leadership Class, which allows me to connect with new people and make a difference on my campus. I am a part of Rose State’s Civil Honors program, which has provided me the opportunity to serve at a nonprofit called Sharing Tree. This organization helps those who need clothes, food, and household goods. I am active on campus and am also a student-athlete. I study hard and strive to succeed in every class. I am a member of Phi Theta Kappa. Being associated with these organizations and groups has allowed me to explore the real meaning of being a servant leader. People need to have strong leadership qualities, be devoted to their commitments, and be willing to serve their community and campus. Becoming a servant leader is an intrinsic quality that has made me who I am today. I am honored to be nominated as a Newman Civic Fellow.
