Personal Statement

The importance of serving one's community was apparent to me as an adolescent when I volunteered at the local VFW. Speaking to the veterans and low-income families about their needs, instilled in my mind the importance of advocating for others. Presently, as a SUNY Student Assembly representative, the importance of providing services to those who need it most has resonated with me. Specifically, my SUNY Student Assembly peers and I constructed a veterans committee that assists SUNY student veterans obtain academic and personal support when needed.

As Vice President of the SUNY Farmingdale State College Student Government Association, I've learned you must stand for those who are voiceless. Originally, I attended FSC for the bachelor's program in Aviation Administration. However, as time progressed my involvement in the community, the FSC campus, and with SUNY strengthened my interest in social justice issues. As such, I've shifted my academic focus to political science and recently sought opportunities at local non-profit organizations to learn more about the social issues in our society. My long-term goal is to hold political office one day, so that I can utilize the knowledge I've gained to implement policies that support those in my community who are in need.
