Personal Statement

My passion for working to make things better in my community started long before going to college. I would deliberately choose jobs where I believed I could make a difference. I see being given the opportunity to receive a formal education as just another tool that I now have to create change and impact others. Since being enrolled in college I have been able to tutor and mentor my peers and at-risk teens through the Boys and Girls Club. I have also been able to help feed those who are homeless and hungry through the Clara White Mission Homeless Shelter. It is important for me to take what God has blessed me with and use it to be a blessing to others. I plan to use what I am learning as a Psychology and Mass Communication major to understand the way people think and why they do what they do and somehow combine this knowledge with what I am learning about social media to effect change.
