Collin Officer

It is my privilege to write this letter of nomination on behalf of Mr. Collin Officer for the Newman Civic Fellowship Program. Collin is currently an undergraduate student at New Jersey City University pursuing his degree in Psychology.
While completing his studies, Collin has been working as a Student Assistant in the Office of the President and also serves as a member of the NJCU Board of Trustees as the student representative. Collin is also involved in numerous other organizations on campus; he is a Peer Mentor in the SOAR Office, Greek Senate Treasurer, Student Senator at Large for the Senate Executive Committee, Treasurer for Psi Sigma Phi Fraternity and part of the BAAFSSO Mentor/Scholar Program. Collin's commitment to leadership is evident in all that he does and his willingness to be a continuous learner is noticeable. Collin is one of the brightest students I have had the pleasure of working with, he carries himself with kindness and professionalism.
Collin's civic engagement is evident in his work as a student and his involvement with the many university organizations he serves. He is mindful and shows collaboration in his actions as a student and the campus community. Collin is motivated and takes action to promote change. I would recommend Collin without hesitation for the Newman Civic Fellowship, his leadership and work ethics are ever present as stated above.
Personal Statement
I grew up fairly well-off, so when I came to New Jersey for school I was shocked. At New Jersey City University for every new person I met, there is another story that inspires me to fight for another social issue: racial equality, gender equality, domestic violence, community violence, gentrification, and many more. I joined a fraternity, Psi Sigma Phi Multicultural Fraternity Inc., and worked with my brothers to raise awareness and money for many causes and charities that affected the local community. However, I realized that no matter how much I can accomplish as an individual it is minuscule compared to the change I can create by teaching and helping other students grow into their own leaders. I work as a Student Assistant in the Office of the President, serve as a student senator-at-large on my University's Senate, and the student representative on the Board of Trustees. My goal is to use these positions to act as a bridge between the students
and the administration, so all students can have the necessary resources and assistance to fight any issue they desire with maximum support.
