Christopher Antoine

Moravian College

Christopher Antoine has served as a true role model of tenacity and commitment. After noticing that historically underrepresented students were not always aware of their resources on campus, and students of color were finding themselves challenged by financial obligations that distracted from focusing on their coursework, he decided to take action. Christopher knew that as a student of color himself, he had an opportunity to create change on campus. His passion for providing his peers with resources for both personal and academic success started at ground level and has only continued to grow. He is committed to harnessing the talent and energy of students of color and being there as a guide for their college journey. Christopher has worked with students, faculty and staff to create an environment of education, growth and partnership. He has a multi-faceted, innovative and engaging plan for mentoring, financial support, and long-term commitment to the institution through civic engagement strategies and opportunities. He brilliantly sought to create a mechanism for support for our most vulnerable students. Christopher's work and revolutionary spirit exemplifies Moravian College's liberal arts tradition of transformative leadership in a world of change.

Personal Statement

During my time at Moravian College, I have seen an exciting influx of ethnicities and backgrounds in newly enrolled students. Unfortunately, I believe a common pattern emerged. Many students at Moravian found themselves facing difficult decisions, and withdrawing within their first semester. The problem was due to outstanding tuition balances or unsatisfactory grades. I became aware that students who were most behind in payments were typically students of color and were not performing well in the classroom because of a perceived lack of role models. I am striving everyday to address both problems. I am the Treasurer of the Omicron Kappa chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. I am involved in Residence Life as a Resident Advisor and I am an active executive member of the Black Student Union. I am also a Landmark Conference Champion for Track and Field. Through my campus involvement, I try to serve the Moravian College community as a positive role model. I am working with the Center for Career and Civic Engagement to develop more opportunities for underrepresented students. I hope that by combining service and mentorship, we can develop the proper resources for students of color to succeed.
