Andrew Brestel

OSU Institute of Technology

Andrew Brestel is a first-year student at Oklahoma State University Institute of Technology-Okmulgee, who is passionate in leading efforts to address access to proper medical facilities that provide adequate, affordable healthcare to their patients. Although he believes that change would need to be made at the national level, he yet has on-going conversations about the topic with a medical doctor (specialist) in the area. Additionally, regarding the transportation issue to medical facilities that poses a challenge to some populations, Andrew has the potential to foster partnerships with local agencies for ride-sharing as well as the convenience of free mobile medical care.

Personal Statement

The impact and profound effect on giving to others and the community draws me towards wanting to impact as many people as possible. I’ve wanted to be involved - a tool in the community - so others may see and follow my lead and also become leaders in the community. I have been involved in Walk to Defeat ALS for patients and families battling ALS, helping organize and set up events, mentor youth through coaching wrestling, and providing Christmas for families and children through self service and the Angel Tree. I want to make a difference and would gladly take on difficult challenges including social issues as disparaged groups not able to have proper access to adequate medical care and the ability for health care facilities to properly provide adequate care are both problems that can be fixed. For the groups in the community that aren’t able to access medical care, due to transportation or monetary issues, local ride services or free mobile health clinics can help ease some of the burden.
