Personal Statement

One of my earliest projects to promote civic engagement was my Eagle Scout project that was titled "Don't Hang with the Gang," which was a conference about gang culture and what influences prospective gang members. After I graduated from high school, I interned for Creation Justice Ministries, an environmental advocacy organization that focuses on promoting sustainability and environmentalism in major Christian denominations. I also got the opportunity to intern for Equal Justice Under Law, a civil rights nonprofit that seeks to end class discrimination in the prison system and the cycles of poverty in the nation. On campus, I'm a staff writer for the newspaper, The Towerlight, and published articles that discuss topics, such as immigration, domestic violence, mass incarceration, and more. Another one of my roles is being a Co-Director of Towson Freedom School, which is a social justice group that educates people on issues that affect the Black community, such as mental health, education inequities, and more. I also serve as the SGA Director of Civic Engagement and worked on initiatives that consist of campus safety and voting in the 2018 midterm election.
