Adam Graubart

The George Washington University

Since arriving at GW, Adam Graubart has been an active student leader, inspiring others on and off campus, and extending his commitment to social justice in multiple ways during his first two years. He organized with Jews United for Justice to win 8 weeks of paid family leave for all Washington, DC workers; interned with ONE DC, organizing for housing equity; was an AmeriCorps member with Jumpstart GW, and a Smashing Idols Fellow with the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion.

Adam serves as Advocacy Chair for the Roosevelt Institute at GW, a student think tank that engages students in solutions-based progressive activism. Adam is also a Residence Life staff member, leading 60+ residents by modeling academic success, upstanding morality, and civic engagement.
Adam has tremendous potential as a citizen leader. It is apparent from his resume and his consistent dedication to service both in his co-curricular activities and in his academic coursework, that Adam is driven to serve and advocate for and with others. With his ambition to become a rabbi, he clearly demonstrates his intentions to promote social justice.

Personal Statement

Adam Graubart is a sophomore at George Washington University. He studies Human Services/Social Justice and Judaic Studies, aspiring to serve as a Reform rabbi in the future. Through his academic pursuits and service learning opportunities, he seeks to understand how to connect Jewish values to community organizing and positive social change. Outside of class, he participates in the GW Wind Ensemble playing mallet percussion and the Roosevelt Institute at GW with which he serves as the Advocacy Chair. He also works as a Community Organizing Intern at Jews United for Justice and as a Resident Advisor, building community among 64 residents on the eighth floor of his residence hall. He feels passionately about racial and economic justice and fair housing practices, but he also enjoys jazz music, reading, running, and exploring new places. Adam wants to gain greater insight into ethical leadership and constructive community building practices through his participation in the Newman Fellowship. He intends to translate the skills he improves from this fellowship into both his direct service and advocacy. As a result, Adam hopes to grow as a stronger leader for the Jewish people and the larger communities with which his future congregation will co-exist.
